About

Dr. Delvida Long

I am New York born and raised in New York and Florida.  Middle Georgia is the 14th place I have lived...why so many you ask...I am blessed with marrying an Air Force member resulting in travel from Korea to Iceland and everywhere in between.  We have four children with our older two serving in the US Armed Forces (US Army and US Space Force). Our younger two still in school with one attending Georgia Institute of Technology and one attending Warner Robins High School.  We are active in the Robins AFB Chapel, Warner Robins Booster Clubs, and Central Georgia Boy Scouts of America

My Clinical Approach:  THINK, LEARN, THRIVE

Therapy is one way to help people "revise" their survival tools and live a more enriching and fulfilling life. For some people, this will involve emotion focused change and for others it will be altering cognitions and thought processes. I have had success in utilizing each individual's strengths while improving a person's "growth edge" (i.e., less developed characteristics).

My goal is that each counseling session provides some small change towards the larger objective. Although each counseling session may not feel as "full" as the next, I expect both of us to come ready to work on an issue. Between our session appointments, I spend time thinking about your progress, reading articles about new research related to your concerns, and on occasion seeking supervision (without using any identifying information as to protect your confidentiality). As such, I also hope that you will advance your therapy by completing collaborative "homework" assignments we have discussed (e.g., journaling, exercising, talking to partner, doing on-line research, improving sleep habits, accepting compliments, asking friend for feedback).

My therapy style is direct and action oriented. Although I listen in session, I am involved in the process and often give direct feedback. In order to keep our relationship balanced, I hope that you will give me feedback about our counseling progress. In this way, we work towards an honest and genuine therapeutic relationship.

My goals are to:

  1. Help you make change,

  2. Teach you how to maintain that change,

  3. Educate you on how to anticipate challenges so you can maintain your progress and

  4. End therapy in a caring and compassionate manner that honors the hard work you have accomplished.
